No, that's just ultimate team. There is a franchise mode that I think is what you're looking for.

I've played Madden since it first came out. Don't miss a Season with it.

You can actually Manage without ever going into a game and 'playing' it... which I do from time to time. I also invite Friends and we'll Manage the games vs. the AI and Play our Head to Head Games, for a mix of who is the best at Management and who is the best at the sticks (controllers).

The issue I have, being a fairly good player, is that there is no realism in Stats. On All-Pro (the 2nd highest difficulty) I'll have 800 Passing or 400 Rushing a game on 10 Minute Quarters and always Win. On All Madden it's much tougher, I will still always Win (even with a Roster full of Rookies via Trade, or the Cleveland Browns) but the Rushing YPC is shot to **** and none of the stats are close to realistic.

Simulating, for the most part, DOES drive realistic stats. So if you want it for a Sim, you'll do well. But if you want it for a Realistic Play... you likely won't get that from any game.

However, there is a bonus. Madden goes VERY DEEP in Tutorial, even breaking down types of Offensive and Defensive Schemes you can practice in Drills. It will TEACH you who the Fill and who the Cutback are on Defense, it will TEACH you what a Cover 2 is, how to play it and how to play against it, it will TEACH you what a Flood Concept is, how to play it and how to play against it... and on and on.

So it would be a much more 'Fun' version of spending 40 bucks for a Football Tutorial on a specific System, where here you can 'have fun' and get a light Tutorial on almost all the NFL Systems.

So for some one wanting to learn, the Drills and Simming your Team will teach you a ton.

Yeah EA is the worst. That exclusive deal they have with the NFL has set back "football games" a decade at least. If there was real competition, I have to imagine there would be MUCH better football games out there.

I agree with everything you have to say except, I would add that "NFL Head Coach 09" is one of my favorite football games of all time. It has it's issues, but as far as NFL sims go, I haven't found much better(Except maybe MFN). The roster management has a ton of depth and you can really build successful teams with completely different schemes. It's fun to experiment with different game-plans and whatnot. Also the draft is alot of fun if you're a football nerd like me. Now don't get me wrong, it's not some perfect game, but a quality NFL sim seems like it's nearly impossible to find. Every year Madden's franchise mode is an epic disappointment(not that I buy it every year, I only buy Madden every 5 years or so, and it's still the same game lol). If they made an updated "Head Coach" I would buy it in an instant. I don't even need fancy graphics and all that, I just want a deep intelligent sim... is that so hard to ask.

I'm thankful I found MFN, because this is the most challenging football sim I've ever played. With the opponents being ran by actual people the trades, free agency, and draft are all more fun. I just wish this game had a little more depth/strategy to the "X's and O's".


I have Head Coach and Head Coach 2, and love them both. I do see the flaws, but I love the games. Man, I wish they'd give that another try... and do it right this time.

Head Coach I went with a College Option and went for Josh Johnson at QB. :P Jamaal Charles at RB.

The problem is, I think the Cap is bugged on the game. So long term game is nearly impossible. No way you could do a Youth Movement like my Cleveland Browns are doing right now in real life, because you'd get fired due to Cap before they could fire you for Losing. LMAO!

I agree a lot with what you say and played madden and coach like you til 2005 or so, but this is why we play MFN now. Stick is irrelevant here, but both games lack a good representation of zone blocking schemes while Madden spends like ten million in development we spend man hours developing the same concepts, but still play this cause its free.

I would play madden too if it were free, but would pay someone else just to break up Electronic Arts and the NFL monopoly stifling actual game engine growth in this market.

Thanks for allowing me this opportunity ...MFN...try this read on madden. This is the stuff I want to hear on our forums one day
