I know 4th quarters see a bunch of scoring but I am not understanding on why my team went for 2 to go up 14-0

Because your opponents can then only tie with 2 touchdowns rather than win. They still need 2 TD's even if you don't get the 2 points.

You can always change the conditions under gameplanning> misc.
