I should be able to put this guy on IR with a leg at 4% but I can't. We are at midweek 15 so I head into the playoffs down a RB with no hope of him playing.

SARCASM POST:

Might as well play him to get the other 4% knocked off to get the "OUT" designation ..

I actually thought about doing that but he's a rookie I want to keep so I wont.

[not sarcastic post] That is exactly what I would do. [/not sarcastic post]

I shouldn't have to do that. In real NFL he would go on IR now.

Also by doing it, I am basically playing a man down week 15. He'll last 1 or 2 plays, go out and then I'm left with 45.

True, and I will argue for what "should" be and what's "fair" all day. Then I'll throw that guy in front of the injury bus.

#Pragmatism

JDB - this is wrong, not fair, not realistic, shouldn't happen. It's not a hard choice (for me, I don't have a vested interest in the guy) just a psychotic one. This isn't GTA or a WW1 game, just Football. Most of us don't come here to throw crippled toons/dotheads/dudles under busses.

I, personally, don't think it will matter what you do in the long run. My guess is he will be a "glass" figure for his entire career.

Maybe I'm just being lazy; but, I have a question that I don't know if that was covered in this thread because I'm not searching through these Pages LOL

How much are injuries affected when you're in a league going from 4 preseason games down to 2?

I would say alot. Well at least in terms of strategy . My #1 wr took an injury after 13 snaps in preseason game 1. We're in week 4 now , and I decided to hold him out until his injury completely healed to 100. Where he could have played preseason game 2, but not to risk another injury while he's young . ...especially a serious one (which cause early retirement )

The technical reasoning here is conditioning. With 4 preseason games a player can take 25 snaps a game and reach full conditioning for game one. With two you either have to play them considerably or enter the regular season with lower conditioning . Which causes players fatigue to drain quicker and or replenish slower...possibly exposing them to an injury .

I like my starters to be ready , 90+ conditioning , for game one so they can be on the feild when I need them . And for this wr who has 53 conditioning is going to need to be worked back in slowly each game from here on in I hopes to not take on another injuries. Taking full precautions here my hopes he be full go by week 8. Kinda of a long time to miss for what I considered a minor injury, but I could have played injury roulette so this one come down to opinion .

I think there is some other reasons to have more 2 preseason games but only two games to play is two less games to take on injuries as well. Overall , at week 4 my team is pretty healthy , but my recieving corps took on three other injuries in that same span so a decent amount of damage to my passing game was done. Still, I was trying to avoid serious injuries and that was acheived.

Just spent the best part of an hour reading through this thread. It's an interesting debate and I see both sides to the argument.

Moving forward here is my suggestion as to how to counterbalance.

A 7 or 10 player practice squad, made up of players on minimum one year contracts with no bonus.

A PUP designated list (physically unable to play) - players put on this this designation would be deactivated for a minimum/maximum set amount of game weeks (three minimum, five weeks maximum?) and for a maximum of two stints per season.

If placed on the PUP list, you sub in a player off your 'Practice Squad'

Practice squad players should be 'Undrafted rookies' only. This way, they get a chance to 'prove themselves' and improve their ratings giving them a viable shot at getting a spot on a roster.

By having, low(ish) rated rookies on the Practice squad this prevents dominant teams with long standing owners from gaining a significant advantage by keeping quality players who could start elsewhere in the league.

It also means that you have a decision to make re: placing a player on PUP, or allowing him to play injured or be buried on the depth chart or be deactivated.

IF a player is placed on PUP twice in a season it should increase his likelihood to retire, plus if he is on PUP list for three seasons in a row. This would simulate perennial injuries cutting short a players career.

ie the PUP list should be for 'emergency use' only

Thoughts?

Also, not entirely unrelated.

Any player in the free agent pool not offered a contract for 3 seasons should retire rather than sit there in perpuity for 20 seasons.

How best to allocate the undrafted rookies?

Perhaps you select the 10 positions where you would like cover and your 'Coaches/Scouts' would select the players - you could select 2 attributes for each player that you would like a player to be rated higher than average eg Speed/Acceleration for a RB, Strength/Pass Rushing for a DE etc.

Scouts would then 'scour' the free agent pool to search for a player with the right designated attributes and autosign him - base contract, one year, no bonus
