Sooooo, was it worth trading up 18 spots in the 2nd round to draft a kicker Tampa Bay? lol

I find it hilarious their new HC said recently they wanted to imitate the Panthers, that was a franchise to copy.

Now I love my Panthers, but we're not trading up in the 2nd round to draft kicker.

We recently let our punter walk so scoured the CFL to pick up a guy who LOVES Goats :-D

I seriously would like to know when and where he would've been picked if not in round 2....

I think it was an AI pick.

I don't see the issue, if that was the guy they wanted then go ahead and get him. There were many factors that didn't make picking a kicker there a terrible decision.
1.They really didn't give anything up in the trade because the 4th rounder they delt came from their trade back in the first round.
2. The were rumors that other teams wanted the K at beginning of round 3.
3. He's the most accurate kicker in CFB history.
4. Kickers are becoming even more important with the extra points getting moved back.
5. A good kicker like this will likely play in the league 15-20 years barring anything crazy happening.

me neither I don't see the issue .

If by drafting him works out for Tampa Bay Bucs where he hits field goals that they need to win games then it was a great thing to draft him.

Now if he falters like Russell Erxleben then yes they were better off not drafting him.

it is just seems like each draft people always outright critize the drafting and/or trading of draft picks and I think it is best if people just give it like 2 years or more before they look at it then make a assessment on it.

Probably same people who critize that draft pick are the ones who thought very little of the Herschel Walker Trade or even the Randy Moss Trade.

Yet those same people now look at those trades that really 1 team benefitted from it awhile the other team not so much and they probably even say those trades are great though when they happened they probably said they were terrible.

so lets just wait see for some years about this because maybe it will be great drafting by Tampa Bay though it might look terrible right now.

My opinion is that the difference between the best kicker in the league and an average kicker is not worth a 2nd round pick.

And, the Bucs are a long way from a FG or two being the difference between winning and losing a game, let alone making the playoffs.

I say all of this as a Bucs fan. If this guy turns out to be a hall of fame kicker, he's still not worth a 2nd round pick to me.

This. It's also the reason why it's generally not advantageous to give a kicker a big contract, even if they perform well. The level of play from one kicker to the next is rarely sufficient to warrant giving one a 3/4/5m a year contract when acquiring a free agent on 500k will yield similar results.

Equally, your kicker is rarely on the field in the scheme of things. At around 65 plays per game per team on average, your kicker will only be on for kick offs plus XPs and Field Goal attempts. Since all 3 are variable and rely on team success to increase (and with kick offs distance devalued now touchbacks are easier to achieve anyway), a HoF kicker simply isn't on the field often enough compared to other positions.
