Speed is king but ball carry becomes a factor after the player gets the ball and directly effects YAK

Everybody knows a football weighs about 250 pounds, so it makes perfect sense that a 90 speed receiver carrying a ball will always get run down by a 60 speed LB who started 10 yards behind him, because the LB doesn't have a super heavy ball to carry.

I never said I agree with what the code determines but just explaining why it does what it does. I realized a long time ago that if you play MFN like it's real football....you lose.

Default Player weights directly impact a players trade score and what players the A.I. will draft, sign or extend when they run a team.

Custom player weights allow you to weigh each attribute based on how the sim actually works to make drafting, trading and signing players easier for each owner.

JDB has been asked for at least 5 years now to update the default player weights to make them reflect how the actual game plays and he has been stubborn in his belief that the default player weights are where he ultimately wants the game to become.

That means we are all playing a broken game which doesn't value speed or other relevant attributes that are currently important in the current version.

This creates a list of problems to include:

*A.I. run francises are a disaster
*new users are handicapped
*predatory trades
*rosters full of WRs & CBs
*ridiculous player generation
*bad drafts
*empty free agency (especially in full leagues)

Not to mention, why the **** is Joe Biden playing in the secondary in the first place????

I don’t disagree with any of that, but it interesting that everybody has a problem with speed being the end all be all difference maker, yet we also have issues when other “abilities” actually do make a difference and override what feels like a pure speed situation. So which is it? How can the code be broken in both directions, and if it is, can it ever be fixed?

The speed player breaking away for long TDs was a "nerf" built into version 4.6 to limit long TDs on some level. It isn't a 100% "nerf" since obviously there are still long TDs but receivers are slowed when getting behind the defense and can be caught by slower players.

Unfortunately, short & medium passes are the only plays which allowed 50+ receptions even though it's typically less then a 10 yard catch since QBs don't have the time to allow deep routes to get open and even when they get the time to throw and the player is wide open....they drop the ball because of another "nerf" built into deep routes.

JDB did all that to limit scoring but as you know it didn't work the way he intended and created a bigger gap between the haves and the have nots.

Having played TE and de in hs and earlier it's more the awkwardness and arm positioning. If you don't carry it properly or aren't comfortable carrying it, it 100% affects your speed by quite a bit compared to normal sprinting.

While that is certainly physically true, I think at most we are talking about the slightest hitch in a step once you have to hold the ball. In my personal experience I feel usually ran /faster/ after I had the ball, because, of course, several large angry people are coming for me, lol. I guess in that sense, I would be a 60-70 speed rating, but 80 ball carry? So many other questionable decisions based on what these various skill ratings truly mean and how they affect the results we get in the simulation…
